According to reports by the Star Online, former Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was interrogated by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday 3rd of September 2018.
Datuk Seri Hishammuddin was interrogated for the misappropriation of RM50 million of funds that were supposedly used for Barisan National’s campaign in the 14th General Election.
The Malaysian Insight reported that Datuk Seri Hishammuddin voluntarily visited MACC. He visited MACC to provide the MACC with his statement after realizing that his name was mentioned during the investigation regarding the misappropriation of GE14 funds.
On 28th of August 2018, former Director General for the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid was brought in by MACC for questioning. A day later, 7 other employees in the Prime Minister’s research division were arrested. A businessman with a permanent resident status in the United Kingdom was also detained in Kelantan.
During the interrogation upon the 7 employees in the Prime Minister’s research division, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s name was mentioned along with 2 Saudi Royals. Datuk Hasanah denied that Hishammuddin and the 2 Saudi Royals were involved in the misappropriation of the fund used for the 14th General Elections.
Datuk Hasanah’s Lawyer, Datuk Shaharuddin Ali said that Datuk Seri Hishammuddin will be called in for questioning in the future. But the statement was refuted by the Chief of Commissioner for MACC Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri. He said that there was no plans to summon Datuk Seri Hishammuddin. The deputy Chief of Commissioner for MACC Datuk Seri Azam Baki declined to give a statement saying that anyone that can assist in the investigation will be called in.
Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid is also being investigated for seeking support from Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director Gina Haspel. Multiple screenshots of the letter were leaked by sources and she was allegedly asking for support from the United States of America on behalf of former Prime Minister Najib Razak to assist in the General Elections.
