On 29th of August 2018, the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested multiple top level public servant from the Prime Minister’s research division. The arrest is linked to the misappropriation of funds used for the Malaysian 14th General Elections.
Among the arrested are former director general Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid, deputy director general, and six other administrative and diplomatic services. A total of 1.6 million of funds used for the 14th General Election (GE) was misappropriated.
Datuk Hasanah is also being investigated for leaked screenshots of a letter seeking support from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the United States of America.
Datuk Shaharuddin Ali, representing Datuk Hasanah as her lawyer has issued a statement saying that Datuk Seri Hishammuddin’s name was brought up during the interrogation on the arrested. He also revealed that the MACC will be calling Datuk Seri Hishammuddin in for questioning.
Furthermore, two other Saudi royals are also linked to the misappropriation of the funds used for 14th General Election.
Datuk Hasanah gave her statement in court expressing that she was merely following orders from the Malaysian Government. Datuk Hasanah stated that Datuk Seri Hishammuddin is not involved in the misappropriation of GE 14 funds. She also stated that the two Saudi Royals are not involved in the case.
The MACC chief of commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull was asked regarding whether Datuk Seri Hishammuddin will be call in for questioning. He replied saying that there are still no plans in place to summon Datuk Seri Hishammuddin for the case of misappropriation of the GE 14 Funds.
The MACC deputy chief of commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki also declined to comment when asked whether Datuk Seri Hishammuddin will be called in for questioning. He added that anyone who can assist in the investigation will be called in.
