First ever FIFA World Cup Final
Croatia only broke off from Yugoslavia on 25th of June 1991 and was only formed 8th of October 1991. Their population is only 4.171 million and yet they have managed to reach the finals of the FIFA World Cup.
This is Croatia’s first ever World Cup Finals and could potentially win its first ever World Cup trophy against France this Sunday. Even if Croatia were to lose to France this Sunday, they would still receive a silver medal. Every Croatian in the world is looking forward to their national team’s first ever finals except for a single Croatian international player.
Croatian striker, Nikola Kalinić was sent home by the head coach due to his massive ego of not wanting to be substituted in the 85th minute against Nigeria. Croatia was 2-0 up against Nigeria and Head Coach, Zlatko Dalić decided to rest their star striker, Mario Mandžukić.
It was then that Nikola Kalinić told coaches that he was not ready to enter the pitch due to a back issue. This was not the first time that Kalinić had done this. Prior to the FIFA World Cup, in a friendly match against Brazil, Kalinić had also told the coach he was not ready to be substituted in to the game.
The coach then took the decision to send him home as the entire medical team did not believed that the player was suffering from an injury. The coach commented that the player was not carrying an injury problem but was carrying a ”problem”.
Croatia will only have 22 players out of the 23 allowed players for the FIFA World Cup.
Will he get a medal?
Kalinić has never won a single medal in his entire career and will probably never get his hands on a FIFA World Cup medal. A total of fifty gold medals will be presented to the winning team and fifty silver medals to the losing team of the final match. Zlatko Dalić will surely not award the medal to Nikola Kalinić due to his selfish ego.
